Under counter filter units

Our filter units come complete, packed into a handy carry box. The kit comprises of all the necessary parts and fittings needed for most DIY installations Including a nickel plated brass faucet

Our under counter filter units are available in 1,2 or 3 cartridge systems. These systems come with the combination of the following cartridge types

Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) Cartridge

Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) is a high-purity copper-zinc formulation that uses a basic chemical process known as redox (oxidation/reduction) to remove chlorine, lead, mercury, iron, and hydrogen sulfide from water supplies. The process also has a mild anti-bacterial, algaecitic, and fungicitic, effect and may reduce the accumulation of lime scale.

KDF process media is used in pre-treatment and primary treatment applications to supplement or replace existing technologies in order to extend system life and to reduce heavy metal contamination, chlorine and hydrogen sulfide. It is often combined with other technologies to achieve superior overall results. Because of its effectiveness at higher water temperatures, it is often used on shower water filtration systems to remove chlorine and other contaminants.

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Cartridge

There are two principal mechanisms by which activated carbon removes contaminants from water; adsorption, and catalytic reduction, a process involving the attraction of negatively-charged contaminant ions to the positively-charged activated carbon. Organic compounds are removed by adsorption and residual disinfectants such as chlorine and chloramines are removed by catalytic reduction.

Activated carbon filters remove/reduce many volatile organic chemicals (VOC), pesticides and herbicides, as well as chlorine, benzene, trihalomethane (THM) compounds, radon, solvents and hundreds of other man-made chemicals found in tap water.

Sediment Filter Cartridge

A sediment filter’s main purpose is to remove particles from water—are rated by a “micron” number. This refers to the particle size that will be trapped by the filter. A fifty micron filter traps particles of 50 microns or larger, while a 2 micron cartridge traps particles of two microns or larger.

They are further classified as “nominal” or “absolute.” A nominal 5 micron filter is one that traps 85 percent of the particles of five microns and larger. An absolute 5 micron filter is one that traps 99.9 percent of the particles of 5 microns and larger. For most purposes, nominal filters are fine, but when very high grade water is required, an absolute-rated filter may be needed.

Sediment filters can be made of a variety of materials. Wound string or cord, polypropylene, polyester, cellulose, ceramic, glass fiber, and cotton are among the most common.

Big Blue 20″ whole house filter unit complete with UV sterilization

The above image depicts the standard three stage 20″ Big Blue filter unit complete with inline UV sterilization unit. The cartridges included are a Sediment, Carbon block and a second sediment or pH correction cartridge. The system also includes a manual bypass manifold should the system need servicing or there is an interruption in power supply. With all alternative wter supply systems, we include the installation of an RPZ (Anti Backflow) valve. The RPZ valve is required by City Council on all alternative water supply systems where connected to the mains water supply to the dwelling. (Read more about this valve in our products section)

Fiber reinforced vessel and UV sterilizer for whole house use

The above image depicts a Fiber reinforced vessel filled with granular activated carbon and an auto backwash head. The backwash head is a necessary part of this installation. On a timed basis the auto head will backwash the media and stir it up inside the vessel to remove any debris that may have accumulated as well as prevent any “channeling” that may occur over time if the media is not agitated. Channelling means that the water passing through the filter is not making efficient contact with the media in the vessel.
